I've been so busy lately, that there really hasn't been a lot of time to focus on my work, and studio, which is really frustrating.  Commissions are rolling out much slower than usual, and orders are taking longer to fill, which I wish wasn't the case, but it's slowly coming along...(the new place/moving chaos).  Every day has been filled with lugging furniture, or painting, or buying appliances, which I am totally over now, after over two solid weeks.

I'm going to be showing new work this Friday along with heaps of other jewellery/metal artists, at the Harbourfront Centre in Toronto, and wanted to share the open invitation with you all.  The exhibition that I will be showing with is titled, "Repeat, Repeat", and curated by the extra fantastic Melanie Egan.

This is the Spring launch of their exhibitions, and I'm pretty excited to see the work of fellow alumni, Cal Lane.  I'm a big fan of her work...ever since we were in a photography class together at NSCAD.  I remember we had an assignment that she resolved by shooting images of men working at a local scrap metal yard.

They were older fellows, in dark coveralls, shot from behind, and each man that she shot had a single, solitary intricate doily tucked into their back bottom pocket.  It was, obviously, inspiring, and memorable, if after almost 13 years later, I can recall these photographs with vivid clarity....and pretty inspiring to see her work develop over the years in such an amazing way from this beginning.

Her interest in the masculine and feminine, explorations of contradictions and sense of humour has developed into more political work, as of late, and remains extraordinary and inspiring to me.

From her website she explains:  "This manifested in a series of “Industrial Doilies”, pulling together industrial and domestic life as well as relationships of strong and delicate, masculine and feminine, practical and frivolity, ornament and function."

Hope to see some of you at the opening on Friday evening!
